Where do I even begin? We have traveled to some incredible places, and I can honestly say Ambergris Cay is one of those rare vacations where the reality actually exceeded the pictures (which I honestly did not think was possible).
First, our butler Jason deserves a standing ovation. I don’t think he knows how to say “no.” Every request was answered with a “yes,” a “sure,” or “I can make that happen,” and somehow he would then turn around and make it happen in an even better way than we expected. He was a huge part of why our stay felt so effortless and special.
Let’s talk about the food because I’m still thinking about it. Usually on a vacation, there are a few meals you remember and a few you politely forget. That was absolutely not the case here. Every single meal was incredible, and we have talked about the food multiple times since coming home. The bonfire dinner was especially magical and is a memory we will always keep.
Our couples massage at the spa was another highlight. By the time we left, we were so relaxed I’m not sure either of us could have handled making any important decisions for the rest of the day.
The villa was absolute perfection. Waking up every morning to the remote-control shades opening and revealing that unbelievable ocean view felt like a scene from a movie. We loved swimming in the ocean right outside our villa and were lucky enough to see sea turtles. My husband basically claimed the hammock as his personal reading headquarters for the week, and I happily claimed the private pool as mine.
The little details were what made the experience so special. The indoor and outdoor showers were incredible, and I never thought I would write a sentence in a review about shampoo and conditioner—but here we are. Whatever they put in those bottles needs to be sold everywhere because my hair has never looked better on vacation.
Having a golf cart to explore the island was so much fun. Finding the Pirate Ruins was an unexpected surprise and made us feel like we were on our own little island adventure.
One thing Ambergris Cay does beautifully is the balance between privacy and community. If you want to disappear and feel like you have your own private piece of paradise, you absolutely can. If you feel like grabbing a drink and having amazing conversations with other guests, those opportunities are there too. We met some wonderful people and loved hearing their travel stories.
The part of this review that surprises me the most is that I am going to use the words “good value” for a resort with a price tag like this. It is absolutely a luxury vacation and a major splurge. But when you consider the private charter to and from the main island, the incredible service, the top-shelf drinks, the boat trip to the floating tiki hut bar sitting out in the ocean (which is every bit as cool as it sounds), and the phenomenal meals, we truly walked away feeling like every dollar was well spent.
We arrived excited and left wondering how soon we could come back. Ambergris Cay gave us memories we will cherish forever, and we genuinely hope this was our first visit of many.
Ambergris Cay (pronounced "key") is pure perfection. Our family just returned from what we all agree was a wonderful, relaxing, and restorative 5-night stay in paradise. Everything about Ambergris Cay exudes luxury, from the private plane you take to get to the island to the gorgeous accommodations and facilities, to the friendly, attentive staff. The entire experience is five-star.
To say we were impressed by our accommodations and surroundings is an understatement. Our bungalow was brand-new and we were the first occupants. It was immaculately clean and was kept so by the daily housekeeping service. We had a wonderful view of the Club House across the inlet and we enjoyed trying the kayaks and SUP boards. The plunge pool was a nice way to unwind after a long day of activity, and we loved the quiet peace of the morning with coffee on the deck.
Calico Restaurant (breakfast and dinner) and the Club House Restaurant (lunch) had delicious and varied menu offerings and even our sometimes picky kids enjoyed their meals. The waitstaff at both locations were top-notch. Fruit plates as well as appetizers that we hadn't ordered appeared at our table, simply because the waitstaff thought we might like to try the dishes. Our water glasses were constantly refilled. Servers remembered our food and drink preferences. Thoughtful touches like these go a long way!
Finally, I can't say enough about our Island Host, James. James made our stay seamless. He went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed and/or wanted, he handled logistics, and he made all of our arrangements for activities during our stay, which meant that we didn't have to worry about anything. James is magical - always working in the background to make sure we had the best vacation. Thank you, James, for going above and beyond and for being so wonderful!
If you are looking for a luxury experience that is unique and off the beaten path, consider Ambergris Cay. You won't be disappointed!
We spent five amazing days at Ambergris Cay, and it exceeded our expectations. The food was outstanding, the service was exceptional, and every staff member went out of their way to make our family feel welcome.
One thing we loved most was that there was so much to do beyond the beautiful beaches. We enjoyed hiking, biking, and exploring the island, something we weren’t expecting from a tropical destination. The sunset boat cruise was a highlight of the trip and an absolute must-do. We also saw so many animals! iguanas, whales, dolphins, birds, and even a hammerhead shark!
We were also incredibly impressed by how warmly our young children were embraced. While the kids' club is currently small (and being expanded), the staff made our kids feel included and genuinely cared for, which meant so much to us.
Ambergris Cay strikes the perfect balance of relaxation and adventure!
Beautiful relaxing couple retreat. Service was amazing from Monica our butler to Jose and Miguel in the wait staff and Jerome the tennis pro. No crowds and plenty of gorgeous scenery.
We had an amazing time on this island. It was a new experience at the resort. All inclusive but very private. Food was excellent. Drinks were excellent. Liquor selection was really good for an island resort as well. At resorts like these the staff always make or break the experience. And the staff were all amazing. They even made a first night power glitch a small blip on a great week.
So here are some people to ask for when you go. Monica our island host was amazing. 12 stars! Always there and attentive to everything we needed. Got us where we needed to be on time (no small feat with us 😂). Ellie made the hangover bar an amazing experience all three times we went. The hangover tiki bar was a real highlight. We met some really fun couples (and families) there. Vishnu, Jose, and Frantz left a lasting impression during our lunch/dinner service. Diane, Lori, and GK were putting together some amazing cocktails (try a whale!). The staff really do make or break these experiences and they made ours.
