A luxurious and peaceful stay for my first time in Tokyo
Just finished an impeccable stay at Hoshinoya Tokyo. This is not your average high end hotel, and I say that in the best way possible. The staff is incredible. They’re always there to assist you, and are extremely pleasant to deal with. They really stood out, from the front desk people to the greeters at the main entrance. You always felt welcomed coming back after a long day exploring Tokyo. It seems like there are 3 staff members for every one guest staying at the hotel. We definitely felt pampered, which is what I love about high end, boutique hotels. The finishes were lovely, from the tatami mats found throughout, to the luxurious bathrooms. One also can’t forget the stunning iron, lattice work that envelops the entire building. Truly stunning. Each floor has a common lounge, which we found charming, offering tea, sweet treats and small bites. Our room was right next door to it, which we found convenient. The Onsen was the true highlight. Just a gorgeous open air space with very clean amenities. We went everyday. The location had a few pros and cons: the subway was located right outside and found it reached many areas throughout the city. It’s in a financial district, which gets quiet at night, good and bad. There’s a 711 right downstairs, which was perfect for morning and late night bites. Not many restaurants nearby that we felt were worth trying. We took Ubers often, and the cars sometimes had difficultly meeting us because they must pick riders up from the B2 floor (basement) of the building. This was sometimes confusing for some drivers, but we managed.
You aren’t allowed to wear shoes inside the hotel, which we didn’t mind, but could see some people being annoyed by this. It was part of the charm and kept the spaces clean. No central bar I believe, and we didn’t feel inclined to check out the restaurant. They don’t have spaces such as EST/Pignetto or Virtu like what’s at the Four Seasons. It’s not that kind of place. It really feels like you’re coming home to your own apartment. I also had Sumo tournament tickets mailed to the hotel days before we arrived, which they held onto until our check in date. Extremely helpful and much appreciated.
I would certainly recommend this hotel for people who are visiting Tokyo for the first time. You’ll feel right at home.
From the moment we arrived in the basement, the Hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. They were understanding that we had traveled all day, and did an expedited dinner service so we can get up to our room and get some rest. The facilities were amazing, especially the ONSEN, and the lounge area on each floor. One of our favorite amenities is the blackout curtains since the sun comes up so early here. We love the way the staff was dressed, and how they always greeted us in a warm, friendly manner whenever we came from being outside all day. They even brought a microwave so that we could warm up our leftovers from our dinner the night before. Every time we call the front desk, they responded promptly to just about any request. I will definitely recommend this hotel to all of my friends and family planning to come to Japan and stay in Tokyo. All of the staff had very warm, smiles, and patience with people that cannot speak their language fluently.
This was the second time we checked into this hotel and the experience was as amazing as the first time! Genuine Japanese decor, ambiance and hospitality. From the moment you arrive, the hotel team look after your every needs: shoes removed (not allowed throughout the hotel), quick check-in and escort to your Japanese room. One of the best night sleeps we have had in a hotel.
Furthermore for extra relaxation you can use the hot spring pool on the top floor of the hotel where you relax in 41degree Celsius spring water pumped from a natural source below the building.
Location is great (short distance from Tokyo station). Staff super friendly and attentive. Only slight negative is the breakfast… but there is a Starbucks just round the corner :)
We will return!
